Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students
When students from other countries come to study in New Zealand, it is important that those students are well-informed, safe, and properly cared for. New Zealand educational providers have an important responsibility for international students’ welfare.
The Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students is a document that provides a framework for service delivery by educational providers and their agents to international students. The Code sets out the minimum standards of advice and care that are expected of educational providers with respect to international students. The Code applies to pastoral care and provision of information only, and not to academic standards.
Kaiapoi High School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Therefore, Kaiapoi High School is responsible for the safety, health and well-being of all International students while they are enrolled at this school. In this capacity Kaiapoi High School has the right to intervene if it believes that any student’s well-being, health or safety is being compromised because the level of care provided by the homestay is not meeting the standards required by the guidelines in the Code of Practice. In any such intervention, the School will be mindful of the rights of all parties and the concept of natural justice. In such situations, the School has the ultimate responsibility in the duty of care for all international students.
