In mid-November, our Year 9 students participated in the Water Survival Skills Aquatics Programme at the Taiora QEII Recreation & Sport Centre in Christchurch.

This compulsory part of the Physical Education curriculum aimed to build water confidence and teach essential survival techniques.

Throughout the week, each class had a session in the pool, where students tackled activities like wearing and using life jackets, performing rope rescues, entering and exiting lifeboats, and practising safe water entry techniques. The students displayed enthusiasm, teamwork, and resilience as they learned these critical skills in a fun and supportive environment.

This experience enhanced their water safety knowledge and fostered a sense of accomplishment and confidence. A big thank you to the staff at Taiora QEII for running such an engaging programme and to our students for their fantastic participation.
