We have recently received inquiries from whānau regarding our new Year 9 Literacy, Numeracy, and Te Reo Māori rotations. This initiative is designed to strengthen students’ foundational skills, ensuring they are well prepared for the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-Requisite assessments, which many will complete in Year 10.

Developing proficiency in literacy and numeracy is crucial for academic success across all subjects and provides valuable life skills and knowledge transferable to adult life. Learning Te Reo Māori supports cultural capability, fosters a deeper understanding of Aotearoa’s heritage, and allows students to learn another language.

How the Rotation Works

For most Year 9 students, the rotation is structured as follows:
Two terms of Literacy
One term of Numeracy
One term of Te Reo Māori

For students enrolled in full-year Te Reo Māori, the rotation is slightly different:
Two terms of Literacy
One term of Numeracy
One term of Technology

📌 Please note: Full-year Te Reo Māori students complete one term of Technology instead of the full-year programme undertaken by other students.

This structure ensures that all students receive a well-rounded foundation while recognising and supporting those who choose to study Te Reo Māori in greater depth. We appreciate the support of our whānau in making this programme a success and welcome any further questions.

Ngā mihi nui
