As we get to the final week of the term we are already in full preparation for our Term 4 Summer Sports which look to be very popular across all the sports on offer.

Please make sure you check your emails and also the sports noticeboard for the team lists as we work through each team.

We also have the following tournament opportunities in Term 4 which are also on the Sports Noticeboard:

Rugby 7s for all year groups – four different events

Junior Basketball 3×3 Tournaments

Junior SISS Korfball Tournament

+ there is also Junior Tournament Week

As our Winter Season comes to end it brings the opportunity for our students to compete at Winter Tournament Week. This year we had eight teams & one individual athlete competing at different sporting events over the South Island from Saturday 31st August – Saturday 7th September. This was a great opportunity for these teams to finish off their winter sports season. We were extremely proud of all of our teams that represented our school with pride. Tournaments are so much more than just the wins, so many life lessons, learnings, new experiences and memories that our students take away which are all just as important. These were captured in the photos in the daily reports from Tournament Week on our Kaiapoi High School Sport Facebook Page.

HOCKEY GIRLS – Jenny McDonald Cup – Ashburton

Our girls had a great week finishing the tournament 6th out of 15 teams which was a great effort. They played well as a team and competed strongly. We are so proud of them all as this is just the beginning for our young team and we are excited for the future of Girls’ Hockey. Well done to Cara Sewell who was the 2nd top goal scorer for the tournament.

NETBALL SISS TOURNAMENT – Christchurch

Our Senior A Netball Team had a great tournament. Going in with a seeding of 22nd from the previous year to finish 10th was outstanding. The team has played great netball and also had fun together as a team, building up to Tournament Week. The girls have worked hard all season, shown great dedication, but most of all loyalty, with the majority of the team having been together since year 9. They have done it for each other and with eight of the girls being year 13, they leave a wonderful legency behind, and take with them lots of memories. What a great way to finish the season.

BASKETBALL SNR GIRLS SISS – Dunedin

Our girls competed strongly over the four days, resulting in the team having to play our local rivals CGHS again in a semi-final. This was a tough battle and they came out strongly and had to work hard to get the win, to put us through to the finals. The team meet STAC again who they have played multiple times this season but have never got this close to go down 67-65 on the final whistle, the girls were so close & were just awesome to watch.  The girls can be so proud of how far they have come & now they are preparing for Nationals.

BASKETBALL SNR BOYS SISS – Dunedin

Our Senior Boys competed strongly, coming up against some tough competition in their pool games. Our boys finished the tournament placed 14th, with a highlight being playing Hillmorton HS. This turned into the tight battle they had all year, with a tied score on the final whistle going into overtime to take the win 85-80. It was an outstanding tournament by the team which they can all be proud of. They had to dig deep working through injuries to finish just outside of the top half of the draw, an awesome four days of basketball by these boys.

A special mention to Dan Keating who travelled with our team as the referee for the tournament, who grew in confidence as the tournament went on.

BASKETBALL JNR GIRLS SISS – Dunedin

The tournament was a true test of endurance and skill, with seven games played over four days. The girls had an easier pool, getting some big wins at the start of the tournament which resulted in the team winning their pool and also their cross-over quarterfinal to earn them a place in the top four. We played against the eventual champions, St Andrew’s College, a hard-fought and highly competitive game in the semifinal loss. The team placed 4th overall which was a fantastic achievement, finishing the tournament with five wins and just two losses. This showed the team’s talent and determination throughout the tournament.

BASKETBALL JNR BOYS SISS – Dunedin

The Junior Boys had some tough games in their pool to start the tournament, in which they had to play hard as a team. This resulted in them coming 2nd in their pool and the boys played their best game of the tournament to get them through to the top 8. They then had some unfortunate matchups to get a higher seeding in the tournament but the boys never gave up and left everything on the court. The Junior Boys ended up placing 8th overall in the South Island which is an amazing accomplishment which they can be proud of.

Well done to Elijah Sommerfield who was appointed to referee the boys’ finals game and he did an amazing game. Thank you also to Kacey McAllister who was also away as our team referee, we have appreciated your help every season.

EQUESTRIAN – Christchurch

Our Equestrian team had a great four days doing what they love while representing our school. They started the week with a 2nd placing in the CTR event on the first day and as the week’s events took place, our team placed 3rd overall out of 45 teams. This was an amazing achievement and there was great support shown by all of the girls throughout the entire week to achieve this result as a team.

ROAD CYCLING – Blenheim

Brodie Chapman competed in the Secondary Schools’ Southern Tour Cycling event representing KHS. It was a big weekend of cycling with Brodie competing in the Time Trial, Criterium, Hill Climb & Road Race in which he was up against some strong competition. The weather conditions with high winds made the event a bit more challenging.

RUGBY SISS U15 TOURNAMENT

We had seven boys who took part in the tournament who have played for the Amberley Club this season and the Amberley Club entered as a combined schools’ team to play in this tournament under their club name. Even though they were wearing Amberley RFC Jerserys, they were representing our school as the team was made up of players from three different high schools. The tournament was played over three days and the boys enjoyed the opportunity playing a mix of teams from around the South Island. Well done to Kahn Berg who was awarded his team’s Player of the Tournament and also Charlie Murphy who was named in the Tournament Team, which was a great achievement.

A BIG thank you to our coaches and managers as we couldn’t offer these opportunities without their help. Their time and effort has been greatly appreciated to give our students the best tournament experience and lasting memories.

CONGRATULATIONS
