On Tuesday 29th October, we gathered to celebrate our Māori and Pasifika prizegiving.
It was a night filled with pride, culture, and community. Kicking things off was an inspiring speech from Layla Bailey McDowell, our former head girl from 2019. Layla spoke about the power of embracing who you are, reminding everyone that “being Māori or Pasifika is your superpower.” Her words struck a deep chord with our students, setting the tone for a night celebrating the beauty of heritage and identity.
A big shoutout to our awesome Year 13 MCs and helpers, Johnathan Green, Mica Wilson, Ariana Roberts, Elenoa Drulidruli, Te Rongomaianiwaniwa Williams, and Eden Tane, who led us through the evening with energy and heart. Their hard work and dedication made the night feel warm and connected, and we’re so grateful for all they did.
This event was all about recognising the students who go above and beyond, showing up for their culture and our school values in all they do. From those who’ve taken on leadership roles to those who make quiet but powerful contributions every day, it was wonderful to celebrate the difference they make.
One of the night’s highlights was the introduction of our new Ūara Award, given to a student who truly lives our school values while giving back to cultural life at Kaiapoi High. This year, the award went to Johnathan Green, who has had an incredible year of growth and commitment. We couldn’t be prouder of him and all he has achieved. Here are some of the other awards that were presented:
