This year, we began a new journey for Polyfest by forming a stand-alone Kaiapoi High group.
More than 40 students have committed to attending rehearsals, practising up to five times a week with the amazing support of our tutors, Frank, Selina, and Va, along with the help of Wendy, Tara, Mereani, Kala, and Matua Nathan. Our performance is a unique fusion celebrating Samoan, Niuean, and Fijian cultures.
We invite you to join us for our Fia Fia night celebration, which will take place on Tuesday, 18th March, in Hiwa i te Rangi from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. There is a Koha entry, and if you’re able to, we’d appreciate it if you could bring a plate to share for kai.
The final item of our performance will be a Taualuga, a traditional Samoan dance often performed on special occasions. This year, our very own Hannah Toli will be performing the Taualuga. During her performance, you’re welcome to place money on Hannah or in a bowl on the floor—a Samoan tradition to honor the skill and beauty of her dance.
We’ll also be performing at Polyfest in the Special Events Area at North Hagley Park on Saturday, 22nd March, from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
We hope to see you there and celebrate with us!
