Kia ora everyone.

2025 is shaping up to be another exciting year for Kaiapoi High School as we continue to provide our students with incredible international experiences. This September, we will be sending a group of students to Beijing and Wuhan for a cultural immersion trip!

We had a fantastic response to the 2025 trip, and applications have closed. As part of the selection process, a language proficiency requirement was in place. We’re thrilled to share that our Year 12 students, Liam and Isaac, took their Chinese language test (HSK) at the University of Canterbury on Sunday, 9th March. They were confident they would achieve the required Level 2 pass.

Looking ahead to 2026, we want to ensure that all Kaiapoi High School students have the opportunity to prepare for this amazing experience. If you’re a student who would like to join the China trip in 2026 and have no prior Mandarin language experience, we have some fantastic news!

We’re offering Chinese language activities during the first break on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and potentially Fridays. We have a dedicated language assistant who will be available in the International Director’s office in K block to help you build your skills and confidence in Mandarin.

If you’re keen to join the China trip in 2026, come along and start your language journey!

We look forward to seeing you there.

Yu Bai, International Director
