Royal NZ Ballet Schools’ Matinee 2024 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
On the last day of senior classes, a loyal and dedicated group of junior and senior dancers took a trip to Christchurch to see the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
“Created for the Royal New Zealand Ballet by Liam Scarlett, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was an overnight sensation at its premiere … See this sparkling, spectacular ballet … a wonderful treat for young and old, lovers of dance, music and sheer theatrical magic”.
Two days prior to the show, a small group of dancers also participated in a practical contemporary ballet workshop with Royal NZ Ballet educator and dancer Jordana Arnold. The students were challenged and delighted with the ballet sequences they learned.
Despite the schools’ matinee only offering us the first half of the show (with dancers having to perform it again that evening), it was a magnificent experience. I am blown away at how clearly the (rather complicated) Shakespearean story and characters were communicated through movement and dance.
Thanks so much to Julie Brown for attending and supporting one of our keenest dancers, Riley Dench. Also, thanks to our other wonderful dancers for attending and supporting KHS Dance!
