This year we had our Arts Expo on the 17th of October.
This evening aimed to celebrate all aspects of the arts at KHS, including Drama, Visual and Digital Art, Dance, Singing, and Media Studies, highlighting the students’ success in these classes over the past year.
The opportunity to display art at this event was optional to all students in the school, despite whether or not they were in an art class. This allowed students to showcase their passions from outside of school, or participate in something new that might encourage them to take an art class in the coming years. Those who signed up submitted a range of projects which was displayed on the night in a massive collection to an excited audience.
The Arts Expo was student-run with the Arts Leaders being involved with the organisation, along with guidance from Mrs Breen and Mr Mead. Students were involved in everything from advertising sign-ups to being involved in the performances themselves. Set acts were shown throughout the night, with performances from both junior and senior students. These ranged from dance duets by Talula and Chloe Green, Emma Wu and Daisy Neave, and singing solos from our talented Eliza McDonald and Liefke Stakenburg. This also included improv. games provided by theatresports to split up the acts. The creativity and passion that each student had is what made the night an outstanding success.
Student stalls were placed throughout the auditorium for people to interact with during the intervals. Stalls included products ranging from earrings, bookmarks, and baking that were all student-made. Art portfolios from students in Photography, Digital and Visual Art were also showcased, combining the celebration of both performance and visual arts.
It is important to have a night that can be entirely dedicated to the Arts, as KHS has a constantly growing arts presence. It demonstrates the dedication, commitment, and collaboration of all the Arts.
A massive thank you to Mrs Breen for assisting the Arts Leaders with such a massive project, and to Mr Mead and Sarah Ashworth, one of our Sound Recording students, for taking the time out of their day to organise the technical parts of the night.
