Year 12 student, Artemis Hingston, is soon to depart for a week-long science camp in Melbourne.
Artemis will join eight other students from all over New Zealand who have been selected to take part in the Youth ANZAAS (Australia and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science). Over 150 applications were received from hopeful students, so it is a tremendous achievement to have been selected. For Artemis, it will allow her to develop her love of science further and will be an opportunity to meet and learn with other like-minded students from around Australasia.
Artemis has had a passion for science since getting her first real taste of it as a Year 9 student at Kaiapoi High School. There is often the stereotype that scientists are not the creative or artistic types, but Artemis serves on the Student Council, is involved in the school debating team and choir, and also loves drama and theatresports.
Artemis’ teacher said the whole school is very proud of her achievement.
