Transition Pathways & the Gateway Programme

Transition Pathways and the Gateway Programme provide engaging, fulfilling study options for students who thrive outside a traditional classroom environment. We offer practical learning and work-ready skills, and develop individual learning programmes tailored to the needs and interests of each student.

Gateway

Gateway offers Years 12 and 13 students structured workplace learning across many industries and businesses in our local communities. Students gain new skills and knowledge in the workplace, and spend 10 to 15 days at a work placement during the year. We work hard to place our students with welcoming businesses that match their interests and career goals.

Gateway is managed by the Gateway Coordinator who selects the students from a written application and interview completed in Term 3. Each student has an individual learning programme.

Students are assessed in the workplace for unit standards that contribute to the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), as well as industry-specific qualifications.

Students work independently in Gateway class time, completing the Gateway programme work and assessments, career and employment work and assessments, or completing other subject work missed through being out on placement.

Transition Pathways

Our Transition Pathways courses include Automotive Introductory, for students who wish to explore a career in the automotive industry, and Ready for Work.

Ready for Work prepares students for life after school by helping them create a plan for the future, gain job search skills, and improve their ability to make positive and informed decisions as part of their community.

Careers Advisory Service

Our careers website is the place to find current career-related articles and a wide range of career exploration events and opportunities.

The Career Advisor is Andrea Williamson and she can be contacted by email a.williamson@kaiapoi.school.nz.  Mrs Williamson provides students with all types of career advice and arranges visiting speakers, careers events and trips to tertiary institutions and employers. Students can be assisted to produce C.V.s, with applications for jobs, and provided information on courses, scholarships and tertiary accommodation.
