Intensive English Program

Every year we provide an ESOL program, during examination leave time, for our International students who have chosen not to sit for NCEA. Some students are required by their Japanese schools to attend the program and others are invited to attend.

This year our theme is Travel and Tourism. The course has been planned around a resource book and supplemented with games and activities. The classes are being taught by Mrs Lau, Mrs Cassidy and Linda Bowen.

Visit to the Darnley Club

On 15th November we visited the Darnley Club as a part of our Intensive English Program. The reason was to meet the members and talk to them about our countries and cultures.

First we introduced ourselves and talked about popular foods and places in our countries. Some of the Japanese students wore yukata, which is an informal cotton kimono for the summer season, and it pleased the club members. Next we showed them how to do Origami. We showed how to make Father Christmas, boxes and cranes.

We felt nervous at first and it was hard to show how to do origami, however, even though we were only there for a short time, we were able to talk to people a lot and we really enjoyed it.
