   Level Two Technology "Tools4Work"

About the Mechanical Engineering Technology Level-2 Qualification

The Tools4Work Level 2 course provides a range of foundation skills and knowledge for secondary school students interested in mechanical engineering and related trades. The credits from the completed unit standards may be used towards the first stages of an apprenticeship or as the basis for a Polytech pre-trade course.

The Level 2 course is particularly relevant for students wishing to pursue careers in general engineering, machining, tool making, fitting, engineering maintenance, fabrication and marine engineering.

The Level 2 units are part of the Competenz Level 2 National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (NCME) and can lead on to trade qualifications in Mechanical Engineering at Levels 4 and 5 on the National Qualifications Framework, and ultimately to the National Diploma in Engineering at Level 6.

The Programme:

The Tools4Work Level 2 Mechanical Engineering will be made up from the following pick list, not all standards will be used but will be chosen from this list. The practical projects of work will vary from year to year, but will cover the necessary skills to meet the requirements of the standards.

  • US 2387 Assemble Mechanical Components Under Supervision
  • US 2395 Select, Use and Care for Engineering Hand Tools
  • US 2396 Select, Use and Maintain Portable Handheld Engineering Power Tools
  • US 2430 Draw and Interpret Sketches
  • US 4433 Select, Use and Care for Simple Measuring Devices Used in Engineering
  • US 4435 Select, Use and Care for Engineering Dimensional Measuring Equipment
  • US 4436 Select, Use and Care for Engineering Marking-out Equipment
