   Level 2 Hospitality and Catering

Level 2 Hospitality is for students who are passionate about working in the Hospitality Industry. Pre-employment training is not only necessary; it is essential if you are serious about entering this industry through Polytechnics or Modern Apprenticeships.

Successful completion of this course will see students awarded the

National Certificates in Food and Beverages (L2) and Cookery (L2) - 21 credits.

Training will be for 4 hours per week on site and work placements are necessary. Students will also be asked to participate in the Salon Culinaire annual competitions.

The programme compliments other schemes such as Gateway, Careers and Skills for Living programmes, work experience and Young Enterprise.

Pre-requisites for this course: 60 or more credits in L1 NCEA and a process of application.

All assessment is Industry based Unit Standards from the Hospitality Standards Institute.

It is based at Level 2 industry standards.

The course is broken into modules of work:

Restaurant training

In the Turning Point Training kitchen and restaurant.
Term 1 and 3

Camp cooking

At the Boyle Lodge making meals for our year 9 students, senior leaders and staff.
Term 2 and 3

Work Placements

In the North Canterbury community.
Term 3 and 4

Competition Work

The competitions are held at CPIT.
Term 2.

The outcomes for this course are:

-       Practical work/competitions in conjunction with the Christchurch Polytechnic

-       Catering experiences through School and through the industry

-       Running the school training restaurant called Turning Point

-       Completions of work placements in the Industry

-       HSI Unit Standard Assessments

-       Certificate of Achievement in Cookery Level 2

-       Certificate of Achievement in Food and Beverage Level 2
